What happens in Vegas doesn't always stay in Vegas — which is why a man married his smartphone in Sin City last month in order to make a point about society's obsession with staying connected.
"If we're gonna be honest with ourselves, we connect with our phones on so many emotional levels," Aaron Chervenak said in a video explaining the marriage. "We look to it for solace, to calm us down, to put us to sleep, to ease our minds, and to me, that's also what a relationship is about."
"So, in a sense, my smartphone has been my longest relationship," he continued. "That's why I decided to see what it was like to actually marry a phone."
Chervenak officially sealed the deal with his dearly beloved on May 20, although the marriage isn't actually recognized by the state of Nevada because "it's not yet legal." Regardless, he hopes that the video of his "slightly unorthodox ceremony" serves as a "symbolic gesture" to society's love for our phones.
"What I hope my wedding will do is to somehow act as a symbolic gesture to show how precious our phones are becoming in our daily lives," Chervenak said, "and hopefully get others to ask that same question of themselves and their relationships to their phones."
